Yoga for Seniors with Jane Adams: Improve balance, strength and flexibility with Gentle Senior Yoga
Yoga for Seniors with Jane Adams is a gentle yoga practice that will strengthen the entire body, improve balance, and increase joint range-of-motion. Based on a popular yoga class at an assisted living facility, this DVD will benefit seniors with a wide range of needs and abilities.
The DVD has two 35-minute sections: A live yoga class with seniors ranging in age from 73 - 92, and an instructor-only version. Both teach the same 40 safe, easy-to-follow movements, all done either sitting in a chair or standing alongside a chair. The goal of this DVD is to help seniors live a fuller, more independent life. Special emphasis is placed on increasing strength and flexibility in the muscles and joints most needed in performing every day tasks. For example, we do many movements to strengthen the feet, ankles and legs to improve balance and help avoid falls; We strengthen the legs and hips, for greater mobility in getting up and down from chairs, and in and out of cars; and we work on increasing range of motion in the shoulders, arms and hands, for greater ease in performing everyday tasks such as getting dressed and doing housework. Full deep breathing and good posture are encouraged throughout. One physician thought this DVD was so good she bought 100 copies to give to her patients. This DVD will leave you feeling both relaxed and energized. It will be the DVD you turn to again and again for a fun, relaxing, total-body yoga workout.

Yoga for Seniors with Jane Adams is wonderful! I work as an occupational therapist, with the bulk of my caseload being seniors/elderly persons. I was so happy to find this DVD which provides a well-rounded, gentle but challenging yoga workout which I can safely recommend to most of my patients for a home program for fitness. Jane presents her instructions clearly and consistently, emphasizes breathing which helps increase lung capacity and can help prevent muscle straining, and paces her class instructions in a way that allows for breaks between the challenging parts of the program. Jane's instructions also emphasize safe alignment which is so important for the body to function at the highest level possible. With her clients in straight back armchairs, she includes warmup poses at the beginning, followed by both seated and standing poses, including much needed balance poses using the chairs to provide safety and stability. She winds down her yoga program with quieter poses, finishing with a seated breathing relaxation to allow her clients to fully benefit from the more active poses they just completed. I have received great feedback from my former senior patients who are now using the DVD to maintain their muscle strength, flexibility and balance - Thanks Jane

"My 93 year old mother and I (I'm 68) have been using the Yoga for Seniors DVD every morning since I purchased it about 2 months ago. We find it clear and easy to follow, challenging enough to feel like we are stretching and appreciate Jane's pleasant way of giving direction. My mother feels better throughout the day and is seeing an improvement in her flexibility and balance. I push myself a little and do the positions without the support so it works for both of us. We have used many different DVD's and this is the best we have found."

I bought this DVD even though I am only 66 and still quite active. I wanted a pleasant, relaxing workout after being on my feet all day at my job. This DVD totally fits the bill. I love Jane's voice and clear instruction. You will stretch every part of your body and be so much more relaxed than before you started. Having the seniors in class on one session and only Jane on the other gives you the opportunity to vary the workout even though it is basically the same. You can't go wrong investing in this unique workout for seniors.

I purchased this DVD for my 80 year old Mom who never has done yoga. She loves this DVD & has been doing the yoga since she received it. She especially likes the instructor only version. Also, she now has my Dad doing the yoga with her!

I bought Yoga for Seniors for my 82 year old mother. She enjoys doing her yoga along with the DVD. She had been having neck and back issues, and is happier with the results from doing yoga from Jane's instructions, than she has been with the physical therapy she has received. At first she was hesitant about yoga, but is now hooked. She faithfully works out with Yoga for Seniors 3 to 4 times a week and often does it seven days a week.
Glad this DVD is out there to help keep Mom healthy & fit, especially since I live in another state & can't be around as often as I would like.
